Think beyond the future—- By Dr. Shahir Asfahan.

2018 is on us. The roar of elections will soon be on us. However , there are a few things we can ponder over. Constitution has survived for 70 years and is likely to survive if God wills in the future too. Should our growth be hostage to a particular government ? Should our future be hostage to a particular ideology ? is it proper to think of our survival solely based on which party comes to power in the coming elections. India has seen many different governments, with many different shades of secularism , but has anything changed for us ? are we any better off ? It is high time we get over this election mania. Our growth should be independent of such extraneous influences. It is high time we dissociate our future from political circumstances. We need to build a politically immune growth. A growth that should entangle us irreversibly with the growth of our nation, the nation that our forefathers sacrificed themselves for, a nation which they build on their blood and sweat. We need

The Charade of Congress-Mukt Bharat..!! - By Dr Shahir Asfahan

Image
Congress , BJP , AAP or any other legal political party represents a thought subscribed by millions on the ground. You cannot have a Congress mukt or AAP-mukt or BJP-mukt Bharat without having India mukt of many millions of those who follow different strains of thought. Nation is about celebrating differences in the constitutional framework , not belittling or crushing or impeding each other for owning a particular thought process within the ambit of the constitution. Wiping an idea is not the panacea for what ails the country. An idea has to be fought by another idea and foster a sense of competition among different ideas to gain traction without intending to wipe each other out in favor of an idea of homogenous state which is not possible in a country as diverse as India. This kind of negative politics has the potential of making a monster which will come back to haunt those who cheered it. Today its Congress-Mukt, then tomorrow what ? Minorities mukt , then what ? Non-V

Hadiya and what she means to the idea of a Republic.! - By Dr. Shahir Asfahan. MBBS. MD.

It’s not about Hadiya alone, it’s about every citizen's rights in a Republic. It’s about the fundamental rights in the context of constitutional supremacy. Those who are confusing this lady's fight to choose her religion and life partner as one defending a particular religion will come to a  great shock,  if this wanton disregard towards her fundamental rights is not questioned today, by the law abiding citizens in our Country. This erosion of her rights will come to bite every citizen in the future who dares to look the government/powers-that-be in their eyes. This is not about keeping Hadiya away from her husband, but about the power of the law to strip a citizen of his or her fundamental rights on any pretext until clearly mandated by the law.  This precedence, if allowed to flourish will harm the cause of freedom that our forefathers so dearly fought to get it for us. In one stroke, the citizen as the fundamental unit of the republic will be turned upside down. It

Tipu Sultan - Modern history's misplaced hero or unwitting martyr? --- By Dr. Shahir Asfahan

Tipu – The man who inspires many different emotions, based on what spectrum of political ideology one subscribes to. Nevertheless, he was resting in peace, satisfied with the life he lived and celebrated in history for the valour he displayed, both by friends and foes alike. Such was his aura, until his soul was exhumed by the current crop of politicians to play politics. For whatever he was, he ought to be judged by the times he lived in and so he stood out like a giant among the pygmies of his time. Never bowed to the British, sacrificed his family, wealth and throne but never yielded. He died on the battle field fighting to the last breath and is defenceless against the insinuations that are thrown at him now by those who cannot sacrifice their petty agenda for a few votes. He can neither engage a lawyer nor put a 100 crore defamation suit  nor organize a protest nor appeal in the supreme court of the land against his detractors. This has allowed a section of the politicians ai

IS ISLAM A SUPREMACIST RELIGION? - BY Dr Khalid Muqueem.

Mr Yoginder Sikand is a renowned scholar, an expert on the issue of Indian Muslims, communal conflict, madrasa education, madrasa reforms, concept of jihad and extremism among Muslims etc etc. He has written a number of books and he is an oft quoted author on the issues of Indian Muslims. He use to maintain a number of blogs on these topics. Of late, Mr Sikand has removed all his blogs and stopped all his activism on these issues. The present article was written when he was particularly active in 'sermonising' Muslims. He had raised a number of  issues which he found objectionable in the beliefs and practices of Muslims. I had written this piece at that time, as a response to one of his articles in his blog (madrasareforms), which is now removed. I am republishing it here with necessary changes. Firstly,  about his criticism of, compulsory use of Arabic language in Muslim Prayers. He said this as  a rigid, narrow and chauvinistic imposition of Arab nationalism on Non-Ara

TRIPLE TALAQ- AN INSIGHT- By Dr Khalid Muqueem

TRIPLE TALAQ- AN INSIGHT It is so heartening to see the concern of our co-citizens for the plight of Muslim women. Many of those people who are showing a lot of concern in this matter, didn't blinked an eye, when Muslim women were raped by their own pseudo-nationalists in Gujarat and Mumbai in the communal riots. But, any concern for fellow human beings has to be appreciated and reciprocated. I always believe in the principle of enriching oneself intellectually and culturally within the borders of one's core beliefs. Social issues are very secular. It knows no boundaries of caste and community. It is more or less prevalent in all communities. Main points of concern are: Woman getting divorced by the husband by uttering few words. Divorce by any other way. Maintenance after divorce. Re-marriage of the young widows. Plight of single mothers and her children. Sexual and social exploitation of widows. Dowry deaths. Killing of wife to get rid of her. Abandon
