Think beyond the future—- By Dr. Shahir Asfahan.
2018 is on us. The roar of elections will soon be on us. However , there are a few things we can ponder over.
Constitution has survived for 70 years and is likely to survive if God wills in the future too. Should our growth be hostage to a particular government ? Should our future be hostage to a particular ideology ? is it proper to think of our survival solely based on which party comes to power in the coming elections. India has seen many different governments, with many different shades of secularism , but has anything changed for us ? are we any better off ?
It is high time we get over this election mania. Our growth should be independent of such extraneous influences. It is high time we dissociate our future from political circumstances. We need to build a politically immune growth. A growth that should entangle us irreversibly with the growth of our nation, the nation that our forefathers sacrificed themselves for, a nation which they build on their blood and sweat. We need to exhibit that spirit of sacrifice, that spirit of loyalty and that spirit of ownership of the nation. We cannot have events like elections/political ideology dictate our fate, our ambitions, our agenda. We have to get out of this rut and build a programme immune from these events.
Education and entrepreneurship is the future. There are no other alternatives. If we think we can do with limited education, then we are plainly deluding ourselves. Education is the single most important guarantee for the growth of any community/section of society. It is a pity that muslims are rated lowest in terms of education, but the good news is that the scope of improvement is large and its effect on our growth will be even greater. The emphasis should be on 100 percent literacy and 100 % higher education and 100% participation in nation building. It is too ambitious a task but nothing less will do ! There should be no child who is not attending school, no student who has to drop out of higher education due to financial/social problems.
Entrepreneurship emanates from quality education and is almost a consequential spin off from having education. It may take time but unless its done in the true spirit then our role in servicing the society will always be in doubt.
Politics the way its is being practiced today is deplorable , however religious based politics will continue for decades in the future and may see minor corrections here and there, but the basic premise of gathering votes in the name of religion/polarization will continue till the entire country sees in the insanity in following that approach. It may take half a century or more to get out of this trench of communalism, and the faster we realize this, the better. Hence the pragmatic approach should be to de-link our growth with that of politics. Politics isn’t going to correct in the near future and is no reason that we hold on to that hope of a future free of religious politics, if anything it is only going to get worse before it gets better.
